Although it can be a thoroughly exciting time, moving home can also be an incredibly stressful time, often ranked up with the likes of getting married. You have the hassle of having to pack everything into boxes, figure out how you’re transporting everything as well as the added worry of letting everyone know that you’ve changed address.
Whilst it might not be possible to rid yourself of all the anxiety you feel around moving all your worldly possessions from one place to another, planning ahead can help reduce the stress you feel come moving day. So with that said Welland Valley Removals have come up with this handy guide to help make your move that little bit easier.
1. De-clutter Your Belongings:
Moving to a new home is a great chance for a fresh start but it will feel less fresh if you fill your new home with junk from your previous home. It’s also a sure fire way to take up way more room in the moving vehicle than you need to, resulting in multiple trips or a bigger vehicle and therefore more costs involved.
2. Pack Early
Once you’ve figured out what you need to pack then getting it all boxed up and ready to go as soon as possible is another way to take the pressure off come moving day. Try making a plan to facilitate this, as it will help save time and inconveniences like packing all the kitchen items two weeks before moving and then realising you still need utensils to eat with!
3. Create an Inventory
Making a list of all your belongings is a great way to keep track of what’s what, and to make sure nothing gets misplaced during the moving process. Labelling up each box with its contents will also help you keep tabs on valuable/breakable items. This can also help with the packing plan, as you’ll be able to see (figuratively speaking) all your items in one place.
4. Decide Whether to Hire a Removals Company
Let’s face it sometimes we all need a little help. Whether it’s helping with the packing and organising or providing transport to move your belongings to their new home, Welland Valley cover it all. We can offer you a bespoke removals package built around your requirements, whether you’re staying local to the Leicestershire area or are planning on relocating across the country or even internationally.
5. Notify Companies of Your Move
Ideally, you’ll want to do this before you move. You’ll need to notify the post office of your new forwarding address, as well as your bank and any other companies you have regular bills with. You’ll need to contact government organisations like HMRC and the DVLA once you arrive at your new address. You’ll want to avoid updating the address on your driving licence, as you may need to your destination on the day of the move.
